Teleconference Aims to Overcome Barriers to Error Reduction
A critical component of improving patient safety in diagnostic testing and screening is the reduction of medical errors. Today, many laboratory quality assurance programs employ error detection programs to reduce errors. Make ASCP’s Aug. 29 teleconference, "Improving Patient Safety - Error Reduction in Laboratory Care," a component of your laboratory’s program to reduce errors.

This teleconference offers an overview of current error detection programs; a comparison of various quality improvement methods; recommendations for implementing Lean methods in laboratory services; and strategies for overcoming barriers to quality improvement, error reduction, and quality assurance. Real-world cases of quality improvement interventions are also examined.

Stephen Raab, MD, FASCP, Director of Pathology Quality and Healthcare Research, Professor of Pathology, University of Pittsburgh, is the course instructor.

This teleconference is useful for practicing pathologists, residents, doctoral scientists, pathologists’ assistants, laboratory managers, bench supervisors, bench technologists and technicians, cytotechnologists, histotechnologists, and students.

The program runs from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Central Time on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007. One CME/CMLE credit hour is available. For details, visit Improving Patient Safety - Error Reduction in Laboratory Care
